
Feathers in the Fog uses the ecological metaphor of the ‘invasive species’ to experiment within the world of the popular triple-A video game, Red Dead Redemption 2. The game has a complex system of virtual ecologies, including fauna and flora and knowingly delves into key themes such as the construction of modern society, race, and marginalisation. Through the lens of ‘invasive species’ I want to explore the concepts of place, space, and belonging, particularly in relation to my own mixed cultural heritage and experiences living abroad. In the Netherlands, where I now reside, there is a growing tendency towards nationalism and a rejection of internationalisation that can be found elsewhere in Europe too (i.e., Brexit).
